Shadyside
We took the 71C bus from the stop on Fifth Avenue near the student union. We got off the bus near UPMC Shadyside and walked down the street a bit. Shadyside is named for the Pennsylvania Railroad station shady lanes, and is known for being a nicer area. In fact, it is rated best neighborhood in Pittsburgh for our generation by one website.

We arrived at Walnut Street, the heart of Shadyside. This is where most of the shops and restaurants are located. Most of the stores are higher end, including stores like Rolex, Pandora, and nicer clothing stores such as J. Crew.
One of the stores we went into was called the Variety Store, and it sells toys and other novelties. Among the nicer stores there were still a few shops that sold small gifts and knick knacks.
We first saw two beautiful United Methodist Churches right next to each other. We saw at least a few other churches as we made our way through Shadyside.
Later we came to a quiet residential area with nice houses. We could see the cathedral from the distance, reminding us we were not too far from home. In fact, we were able to walk back to Oakland.
